After working most of the week, Kraig and I finally got to spend some time together for New Year's. One of my goals for the week was for us to go up in the Washington Monument; however, it has alluded us once again. All of the tickets were sold out, and on the morning that we were going to get up at 5am to go and wait in line- we decided that sleeping sounded much nicer. Oh well, good things come to those who wait.
We did not do anything too exciting on New Year's Eve. In the afternoon we went to the Columbia Town Center for some shopping. It is a great mall, and it reminded us of malls in Cali. Sidebar: malls in Maryland are called Town Centers- I do not know why. I had wanted to buy some Skechers Shape-ups with my Christmas money. They are shoes that are supposed to correct your posture, and tone your legs and thighs just by wearing them when you walk. I thought that sounded like exercise I could handle! I ended up getting the same type of shoes but a different brand. I found cheap ones that were not as bulky/ugly instead. Will report back in a few months as to their effectiveness.
For the evening, we just stayed at the apartment, ate rice and taquitos (you can get them in the frozen food department), drank champagne, and watched 2 Red Box movies. We didn't even watch the ball drop (because I do not have tv)! We still had fun though. We watched the movie Public Enemies and an anime movie of Kraig's choice.
On New Year's day, we did more of the same. We ended up driving to Arundel Mills shopping center because we were going to try and use some free movie tickets to see Avatar. We ended up not seeing it though because they wouldn't accept our coupons. Instead, we walked around this "outlet mall." It was another cool place. As we were about to do our usual and eat "Chinese" food at the food court, Kraig noticed something. He said- are those people wearing Medieval Times hats? Is there a Medieval Times in this mall?" We walked around the rest of the mall, and to our surprise instead of an anchor store at one end of the mall- there was a larger-than-life Medieval Times instead. How funny huh? This land of Mary is very strange.
We have both been to Medieval Times before so we decided to save $100 and head back to the food court. :) After that, we watched another Red Box movie back at the apartment.
We continued to be lazy on into the weekend. I think that our biggest accomplishment on Saturday was going to Pizza Hut. Once again, this Land of Mary tricked us. We thought we were going into a sit-down type Pizza Hut but once inside found it had been transformed into a fast-food version that was anything but fast. It took us 30 minutes to get our food! It did taste good though.
And that's my story.
