My mom and I just got back from out Atlantic City, NJ trip. We were there for exactly 24 hours. We got there yesterday around 6pm. The GPS quit working halfway into the trip... it is no match for a cloudy sky.. so we had to drive around a little before finding our hotel. We stayed at the Resorts Casino Atlantic City. Our room was nice for the price, and my mom particularly enjoyed the rainbow carpeting in the hallway outside of our room. We spent the first part of our evening trying to find a place to eat. We ventured out on the boardwalk and went to the neighboring casinos.. the Showboat and the Trump Taj Hal (one of my patients said that when they remodeled it, the casino should have named a floor after him). We ended up circling back to eat in one of the restaurants in our casino.
The food was okay, but I did get to have rice pudding for dessert! My mom tried it for the first time and can't believe that I like it so much. Rice pudding makes me think of sneaking rice pudding at the good old Prime Table. :)
After dinner, we hit the casino floor. We played for a couple of hours and were actually ahead when we went to bed. The casino is even more fun when you are winning! We played the slot machines, video blackjack, and video poker. The regular blackjack tables were all very expensive.
We got up the next morning and strolled along the boardwalk. It is about 14 blocks or so. We were looking for some breakfast but ended up eating lunch at Johnny Rockets (a burger place which reminds me a little of Steak in Shake). My mom gave up on finding breakfast when we found a Dunkin Donuts that was closed for the season. She was heartbroken. We continued along the boardwalk and made our way in and out of the casinos and souvenir shops.
We eventually ended up in a mall where there was a fountain/light show. It was alright, but definitely not the Bellagio! Still, I like water- especially fountains, so it was something to see. We ended up getting some ice cream and sitting outside on the end of the pier overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It was a very calm (no waves for surfing or rental shops for that matter) and sunny day, and the ocean seemed a little like Lake Michigan. I had wanted to go put my feet in the water, but for once.. I held back. It was a long way down to the ocean..and I figured it would be a very cold walk back.
We should have never quit gambling the night before because when we woke up today, our luck had changed. I was definitely not winning anymore. We lost money at the Resorts, Ballys, Caesar's and the Tropicana- maybe even another casino... I can't remember. Oh well, we still had fun.
We started the day eating ice cream and dreaming of jackpots. We finished the day sipping coffee and hot chocolate, with very tired feet and much lighter wallets.
