Whoever said there wasn't anything to do in the area? Oh yeah.. that was me, and I am finding that it is not true! I have been having tons of fun since I have been home, and I am finding plenty to do. Today, David and I went to the Martins over in Mishawaka for a "Taste of Heritage Square." They were raising funds for the humane society (which I am all about), so we bought tickets and got to go food tasting! They had several booths and a large tent set up with food and drinks for us to taste. Some of the food was from restaurants located in the Heritage Square shopping plaza, but most of it was from Martins supermarkets. I had no idea that they had catering!
David and I both love to eat, so we had a good time. We may have been some of the youngest people there, but I don't care. I felt like I gained some culture and who knows, may have been rubbing elbows with Goshen's elite. We had fruit and vegetables, some great sandwiches, sushi, chocolate truffles, and a bunch of different cheese/meat/spread combinations. You could also taste as many wines and beers as you wanted! Seriously, you could drink yourself drunk! Unless you drank the MGD 64. That is the beer I tried: It may have been less calories, but I found out that it has the alcohol content of half of a real beer.
I enjoyed some of the sushi, the garlic dip, the cheesecake-flavored fruit dip, and this tasty mascarpone cheese dip with a buffalo pretzel chip. I love cheese, so I loved tasting all of the different cheeses. There was no Colby Jack here, I can assure you. They were all really good except for the gouda crumbles. I thought I liked gouda, but I must have been mixed up. Hey, it happens.
It was definitely great to get to taste different combinations of things, even for a picky gal like me. David tried some of the more "exotic" things, like the eel sushi, while I stuck with the strictly vegetarian sushi! There was some really hot garlic sauce that went well with the sushi, even though I had to drink an entire bottle of water afterwards! Even though the portions were small, we ended up eating our fill. I am not sure it was quite the venue for doggie bags, but I still snuck some sushi out for Kraig (which he thoroughly enjoyed).
On the way home, I still had a great taste in my mouth. It was a fun and different thing to do. Maybe more restaurants will participate next year. If so, I am there!
