Well, we made it to our apartment in Port St. Lucie, FL. The apartment complex is not that bad- not the best and not the worst that we've had. One plus for the apartment is that we get free cable! One negative is that there is this fire alarm contraption thing on the ground floor that somehow gets messed up throughout the day leading to an incessant beep which can get pretty annoying. Oh well, I guess we have to pay some price for the sunny, 75 degree weather that we are enjoying!
The area that we live in is nice. We pretty much live off of Hwy 1 (Federal Highway), This seems like a never-ending road filled with anything and everything you can imagine - restaurants, malls, Wal-mart, drug stores, shops, movie theatres, and gas stations- everything that we like to have close by. Too bad that we are planning on eating out a lot less while we are here. One strange thing is the prevalence of Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins stores down here. I do not know if it is a Florida thing or what, but there are at least 5 of these places within 10 miles of my apartment! They have more of these than they do Starbucks! Mom- they even have Dairy Queen and Coldstone Creamery, you would be so happy!
We have been driving around the area getting the lay of the land. The coastline and St. Lucie River are beautiful. I saw surfers when we visited nearby Jenson Beach, and I will soon be finding out where the beginners beaches and rental shops are. I must continue in my quest for ultimate surf domination!
My orientation was fine, and I will have my first night on the floor on Wednesday night. It seems like this will be a good place to work.
