Yesterday, I was invited to a bachelorette party on South Lake Tahoe by people from my work. I decided to go so that I could make friends and so that I could see the lake of course! Well, on the way there- I got a speeding ticket. :( It was expensive too, and I am really mad at myself- I told Kraig that I will win the money back at the casino though! :) We spent the day out on a pontoon boat on Lake Tahoe. It was really beautiful. I swam a little bit because the water is crystal clear; however, it is an alpine lake, so it was chilly! The water is so clear because the lake bottom is mostly granite, so there is no sediment to murk up the water or act as nutrients for algae to grow. Also, there is a lot of granite in the ground surrounding the lake, so the runoff gets filtered really well before it gets to the lake. The coolest part about the water is that it is either bright green or bright blue, depending on the depth. The lake bottom has a very definitive drop-off, so the color of the water abruptly changes from green to blue at a certain point. It is awesome! (I will post pictures later once our printer is working again). There are also mountains completely surrounding it.
It was really fun getting to ride around on the boat, but I ended up with an unwanted souvenir- a pretty bad sunburn. The worst places are the tops of my feet, my knees, my back, and my face. I thought I was being careful too with putting on sunscreen and covering my back and shoulders with my towel for most of the ride. I think I mainly got the burn in the first few hours.. probably because the water was so clear that it was more reflective than usual. I really did not do anything else the rest of the weekend due to fatigue, chills, and feeling groggy. Hopefully the burn will go away soon and I will feel better...
