Warner Bros

On Wenesday Kraig and I went on the Warner Bros studio tour. We had so much fun! We learned a lot and got to see a lot. The tour took s around the studio's 110 acre lot. We got to see a lot of outdoor sets including one for ER, various houses that they have used in tv shows, such as a house they used as Ross and Monica's parents house on Friends. There was a big downtown street where they shoot many different movies on such as I am Legend. We saw a building used for the Daily Planet from the older show, Lois and Clark. Lots of the same buildings on the lot are used for many different shows. They just change signs on them or advertisements that might have a city nme on them. Also, to make the sets look more lifelike, they arrange "atmosphere characters" on them. That is the politically correct term for "extras." I found out that if I worked at Cedars Sinai Hospital, I could have been an extra on ER. All of the doctors and nurses in the background on ER are actual doctors and nurses! We also learned that to make snow appear on creen, they blow around mashed potato flakes, and all windows on a set are tilted or can be tilted to avoid unwanted shadows.
They taught us ways that actors find their marks while they are filming. In one of the pictures I am standing on some actor's mark! Maybe some cool famous person stood there before!
Anyways, then we got to go on the sound stage fo Two and a Half Men and see the set. We both love that show- so it was really cool. We really want to go see a taping of that show when and if the writers strike ends!
We also got to see a lot of old props from movies and tv shows such as the entire Central Perk from Friends, the batmobile, and the Harry Potter flying car!! Heck yah! We also got to see all of the costumes used in all of the last Harry Potter movies. Now Amanda, don't be jealous, but I got sorted with the real Sorting Hat, and I'm a Gryffindor. So is Kraig. It called him a "Weasley!" I also learned that Universal Studios also bid to make the Harry Potter movie, but JK Rawlings said NO! because they wanted to make an Americanized version with American actors. That would have been awful!
We also got to have our picture taken on a green screen- where they put the background of the scene in on a computer. We were in front of a speeding train. Kraig tried to make it look like he was throwing me in front of it, but because of how the picture got taken, he looked like he was saving me from it! Ha! Serves him right. Oh yah, Warner Bros has their own fire dept, police dept and zip code. Kind of like Notre Dame, as kraig points out. They also have plumbers and welders that help build the sets. I think it woud be cool if Kraig worked there!
Anyways, it was really fun, I wonder if we watched movies more closely if we could recognize some of the sets?!? probably not, but I'm gonna try.
