Cardinals game

Today my friend Heather, who happens to live in St. Louis, took me to a Cardinals game. She had gotten free tickets from work. I rode the Metro (the public transportation out here is also called the Metro) from "my side of the river" over into St. Louis. The train here is also referred to as the "lightrail." Heather was so proud! I told her that I collect public transportation experiences :) The Metro was not difficult to ride at all, and it was pretty clean too. The coolest part was getting to ride it over the Mississippi River!
I watched the game with heather, her boyfriend, and a friend of theirs from work. It was really fun. The stadium was pretty cool. One side of the stadium is open so that one can see the St. Louis skyline and the Arch. They also have the Arch mowed into the grass. I really liked it, but I felt bad because I did not have any red to wear! The Cardinals fans are very serious about their team, and there was red everywhere!
One cool part about our tickets was that they got us into a special part of the stadium. We got to be part of the RedBird Club. This got us into special upper deck seats which were padded and under an awning and also into an indoor area where we could go if it started raining. This came in handy as the game was eventually rained out! Also, in the indoor area there were special food vendors. They had the normal baseball game stuff like hot dogs, beer, and pizza, but they also had build your own salads, stir-fry, and a dessert bar. Too bad this stuff wasn't free!
No matter, my hot dog was excellent, and we had great seats to watch the game. I think that baseball is my favorite game to watch, so I hope that we will get a chance to go back! One cool thing about the Cardinals players is that each has their own signature song which gets played when they are up to bat. That made the game more fun.
Unfortunately the Cardinals lost 3-2. The game got called for lightning after 5 1/2 innings. Unforunately it was called just after the Cincinnati Reds got another run. Aside from watching the game, our seats were great for watching the thunderstorm. Sometimes the thunder would rumble the seats, and we saw some amazing lightning for an entire inning. One episode of thunder was so loud that it actually sent people back in their seats. It actually surprised me and took my breath away! I hypothesized that since the Cardinals only started losing once the storm started that they must be afraid of thunder. They are birds, aren't they? Don't birds usually hide and wait out storms?
I had a really great time with Heather. It was so much fun seeing her because she is crazy and fun. It was also fun getting out of the apartment to do a St. Louis-y type thing. We are gonna hang out again next week and she is going to give me the grand tour of the city!
