Washington DC by Metrorail aka the subway

The National Archives

National Sculpture Garden.. some lucky ducks were swimming aroud...

So yesterday, we finally made our way into Washington DC. We decided that it would probably cost an arm and a leg to park there so we opted for public transportation. We took the Metrorail into DC from Maryland (the subway). Needless to say, it was quite exciting for someone not used to doing it. It was also easy- much easier than New York City, granted DC is much smaller. Anyways, I think Kraig and I are just becoming more worldly :)
We took the Green Line in and visited the National Archives. The National Archives houses the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and many other documents. There are telegraphs written by presidents and depositions given by witnesses in many famous trials on display. They have a lot of exhibits that show documents from things like D-day, the Titanic, the Challenger explosion, and the Lincoln assassination. It was actually a good museum and pretty interesting. However, the conspiracy theorist in me wonders about the stuff that they choose to show and the stuff that they keep filed. hmmmm, Kraig and I might look into doing some research there about our families.
Seeing the Declaration and the Constitution was pretty cool. Did you know only 12 colonies signed the Declaration? Rhode Island did not show up for the party. Also, the letter "f" is found in place of "s" in many words on the document. The scribe writing the Declaration took 28 hours to pen it and had to use a string across the page to keep the text straight.
After we left, we walked up Pennsylvania Avenue past the Capitol to Union Station. We ate at the Capitol City Brewery which was in an old bank next door. It was really neat inside and had great food. They even made their own root beer on site. We had to try it! It was great! We even got some free souvenir glasses with a coupon that I had.
After dinner, we walked around some of the shops in Union Station. Then, we ended up walking around a little more in the city before getting back on the Metro. The architecture is beautiful, and there is so much to see! We think that it would have been fun to live there!
