International Spy Museum

We went to the International Spy Museum in Washington DC on the 29th. We had a really great time. The museum was excellent. We got to have code names and cover stories that we got tested on while we were going through the museum. The museum has a lot of information and displays. In the beginning, you learn the about the tools and tricks of the trade. The next part of the museum features stories of famous spies and the history of espionage at specific times in our history such as the Civil War, D-day, the atomic bomb, Watergate, and the Cold War. The museum was created by ex-CIA and KGB agents- or so they say. Like I said, there was so much to see that we actually missed a bunch of it: I would definitley go back. The exhibits were really detailed and well showcased.
After we toured the museum, we attended Spy@Night. We got to do the Operation Spy portion of the museum after hours, play some games, have a free drink/debriefing, and learn about disguise make-up for our "covers." During Operation Spy. upi get to pretend that you are a spy on a mission in the made up country of Khandar. A group goes through all of these different phases trying to find a nuclear bomb trigger and gather evidence of who took the trigger, why they took it, and when and how they plan to use it. It was interactive where you had to spy on conversations with security cameras, descramble recording, sneak into an office and avoid being caught on camera, search an office for evidence, run around, and then give a polygraph test. It was super fun but based on my performace I would not be a good spy! To my credit-Kraig says that it was not explained well and that's why I was confused. Oh well.
I think that Kraig secretly hoped that going through this part of the museum was really a secret operation to find which citizens would make the best spies--- that it was a CIA recruitment tool and that if he did well- he could become a spy. He wishes that he was a spy- or maybe he is and that is his cover. Hmmm.
The make-up artist put a fake scar on my arm, and we played some games trying to decode ciphers with some of the other participants. It turned out to be a really fun evening, and we got to see another area of Washington DC.
