Happy Valentine's Day

I started out this Valentine's Day with my new, sweet green, metal water bottle with me which was my Valentine's gift from Kraig. It is pretty cool. Next, I went to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center for volunteer orientation. I actually carpooled to the orientation with a girl from the apartment complex where I live. Last weekend, before knowing each other, we both independently contacted the Center to apply as a volunteer. The volunteer coordinator assumed we knew each other since we lived on the same street. She emailed us back under this assumption and then we discovered each other. We do in fact, live in the same apartment complex, are both married, and are both close to the same age. How crazy and funny, huh? She is really, really nice. She is from Rochester, IN and her sister event went to Grand Valley!
Anyways, this rehab center is much, much nicer than where I volunteered with the seals in San Jose, CA. The other volunteers there also seem really nice and funny. I am going to be a patient interpreter/docent, which means I will be out by the turtle pools and give visitors information about the sick turtes and sea turtles in general. I think it will be really fun. I think Kara and I are going to volunteer on the same day too. It will be nice to know someone out here.
After the training session, we were lucky enough to see one of the sea turtles get released! Most of the turtles stay at the Center for at least 3 months, so releases are rare. It was actually a big occasion for the community. I think at least 200 people lined up on the beach to see Jolly Roger off back to his ocean home. I did not actually see him go out because of all the people, but it was still pretty cool. I guess Jolly Roger had first come to the center because he was so sick that he got caught in an intake pipe at a local power plant. When he got to the Marinelife Center, he was very lethargic and covered in barnacles and leeches. He just layed still in his tank and let water drip on his head for 3 weeks. After receiving lots of fluids, medicines, and antibiotics he got healthier and was able to swim quickly around his tank, and now he is back in the wild. Good luck Jolly Roger!
Later in the afternoon, I met up with Kraig. We went to the movies and saw Push because I really like Dakota Fanning. After the movie, we tried to go out ot dinner. Everywhere was really, really busy so we tried out Sonny's Real Pit Barbeque. It wasn't bad and we enjoyed our evening together!

Oh yeah.. and for those of you that know my poor car's plight while in Seattle, now he has been involved in a hit and run! When I was leaving the Marinelife Center, someone backed into me and then just drove off! No damage was done, at least not as much damage as I did to my own car on previous assignments... but still, my poor car is a magnet for disaster.
