and Bingo was his name-o!

Yes, Wednesday evening.. we did as Floridians do.. we went to Bingo! I figured that we needed the ultimate Florida experience. Since there are no shuffleboard courts around, we headed to the Bingo Hall. We had a lot of fun even though we did not win. We both came close but just couldn't close the deal.
Our Bingo experience started in line to buy our cards. Admittedly, we had no idea what we were doing. when I swam on the swim team in college, one of our fundraisers was working in a bingo hall. Each week, a few of us would have to take our turn checking bingo cards for winners, selling snacks, and selling bingo cards. It was actually fun except for the risk of developing emphysema or blindness from the massive smoke cloud in the hall. Anyways, until now, that was my best experience with bingo. I knew that you had to really pay attention to play a lot of cards at once, but I must say... I did not give the "bingo regulars" as much credit as they deserved. It is hard!
Once we got to the cashier... he asked us if we had ever played before. I said 'no," and asked if it was obvious. He simply answered, "Yes." He then proceeded to give us a deal on bingo cards since we only wanted to stay for half of the time, free bingo dobbers, and a little extra instruction. I am not sure if we stood out from the other clientele, if he just didn't recognize us as being there before, or if we just looked confused, but we were glad for the help.
We sat in the non-smoking room and one of the workers explained all of the different games to us. The guy sitting next to us also helped by explaining the different permutations of possible bingos... I mean who knows what a doo-dad or a hat pin is? well, I do now. Anyways, since we were not going to stay for the whole time, we were given more games to play at once. For some of the games, we played 12 cards at a time. This was not a good idea! I did not have any trouble keeping up with dobbing the numbers (like Kraig did in the beginning- he's funny), but that was all I could do. I could not pay attention to if I had one of those crazy bingos and dob my spots at the same time! It was really hard in the beginning, and either of us could have won and not even known it! By the end, we did get the hang of it. We were definitely the youngest people there, and all of the folks around us were really nice. We actually had a good time, but I think we prefer blackjack.
