It's December... and I was in the ocean today, surfing. How awesome is that?!? It was a beautiful day, but it is getting colder here- I used my seat warmers today. No matter, once you get past the initial shock of the water, the wetsuit keeps you warm. I started off the day really well and got a couple of bigger waves (for me) right away. I ended my surfing not doing quite as well. I swear that the waves got bigger, and the surf got stronger.. sometimes I could barely paddle out against the tide. No matter, I added some most excellent wipe-outs to my repertoire. I had a couple of good rides that took me right into the beach.. however, I ended up wiping out in less than a foot of water. I smacked my right side (and almost knocked the wind out of myself) and smacked my tailbone another time. I felt like a real ocean warrior. :) I still had a blast... I will be sad to leave in a few weeks!
Also, here is another reason that I am a real surfer now. I was talking to the surf shop guy and was telling him that I will not be here much longer. He said, oh- so you have to get in as much surfing as you can. I said... yah, but I should be picking up as many shifts at work as I can. He laughed, and said, "ahh the great dilemma... to work or to surf." I said yah, that's true- since i picked surfing over working, I truly am a surfer! He agreed. :)
Also, 2 days ago, I put about 11 gallons of gas in my car. Gas out here is currently $1.89, when I filled up my tank for under $20- it was funny, because I was so confused! I thought the machine had to be wrong- I stared at it for awhile.... then did the math and realized it was true! I can't believe I was paying $4.50/gallon in Seattle just 6 months ago.
Also, this evening, Kraig and I ate at Buster's Beachouse. We had really great food, and I learned that fried zucchini mixed into potatoes is tolerable. Kraig was so proud.
