On Sunday, we went to visit Deception Pass state park and to Rosario Beach. It is about an hour and a half north of Seattle near the San Juan Islands and near Canada. There is a famous bridge there with some very picturesque views. Underneath the bridge is supposed to be a stretch of water that is treacherous to cross with various whirlpools and riptides. However, I could not find out when the best time to see these are.... so we just tried our luck. Unfortunately, the water was not moving fast enough to see them- but the scenery up there was still beautiful... As my dad would say- it was "God's Country." We walked along the shoreline and looked for cool rocks and beach glass. We also watched for bald eagles and orca whales, but we did not see any. Oh well- we still had a really good day. We also found some tide pools to explore. They weren't like the ones in CA... We did see tons of little bitty sea anenomes, sculpin fish, and some bright red starfish and "sea worms-" which felt like sea cucumbers. These were hiding in the rocks, so we could not get very good pictures. I am sure we will go up north again, and hopefully see more. One amazing sight however.. my whale boots made their debut into civilized society!!!
At the end of our day, we ate at our first Applebees in 4 months!!! That has been hard for us! It was sooo good!
